President Bola Tinubu has praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their dedication to addressing the country’s security challenges, affirming the government’s commitment to their welfare. During the launch of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund at the State House, Abuja, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, announced a ₦500 million donation to the Nigerian Legion.
In a statement released Tuesday, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga conveyed President Tinubu’s gratitude, quoting him as saying, “No matter what economic theory we propagate or postulate, if there is no security, we cannot promote peace and development.”
President Tinubu expressed his appreciation to the Armed Forces, acknowledging them as the “country’s first line of defence” and thanking them for their patriotism and dedication to Nigeria’s unity and stability.
The president also honored the sacrifices of fallen soldiers, pledging that their dedication to the country would not be forgotten. “We came today to remember our fallen heroes, men, and women who have sacrificed their lives for this country’s unity, stability, and progress,” he said. “The welfare of our men and women in the Armed Forces will continue to be our top priority.”
Minister of Defence Abubakar Badaru also commended President Tinubu for his support of the Armed Forces and emphasized the importance of the Appeal Fund, noting that the funds raised would directly benefit veterans and their families by supporting healthcare, education, and financial assistance programs.
“Unveiling this Emblem serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder of our collective responsibility to uplift our Armed Forces and their families,” he stated.
The event was attended by dignitaries including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, members of the Federal Executive Council, service chiefs, heads of security and paramilitary agencies, and representatives of the Nigerian Legion.
