Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Monday appeared before the Kaduna State High Court as proceedings resumed in a case instituted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
El-Rufai is standing trial alongside Amadu Sule over allegations bordering on abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.
The former governor arrived at the court premises at about 9:00 a.m. under tight security, attracting supporters, legal observers, and members of the public who had gathered ahead of the hearing.
As of the time of filing this report, proceedings were set to continue with submissions from both the prosecution and defence teams.
Prior to entering the courtroom, El-Rufai was reportedly overheard discussing the forthcoming convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with an associate.
He was said to have inquired whether the event would hold the next day, to which the associate responded, “God willing,” suggesting his continued engagement in political activities amid the ongoing trial.
In a separate matter, El-Rufai is also facing a 10-count charge before the Federal High Court.
The charges include allegations of abuse of office, money laundering, and fraud amounting to ₦579.6 million and $1.1 million. A bail hearing in that case has been scheduled for April 14.
Supporters of the former governor have expressed confidence that the judicial process will ultimately vindicate him.
