Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on her reappointment as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The announcement of her second term was made on Friday, reaffirming her position as a global economic leader.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori lauded Okonjo-Iweala, describing her as an illustrious daughter of Delta State from Ogwashi-Uku. He highlighted her exceptional contributions to Nigeria’s economic development, including her pivotal role as Minister of Finance during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, where she spearheaded the country’s exit from foreign debt obligations.
“On behalf of my family, the government, and the people of Delta, I congratulate a worthy ambassador of Delta and Nigeria, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on her reappointment as Director-General of the World Trade Organization,” Oborevwori said.
He praised her competence and international recognition, noting that her reappointment without opposition underscores her dedication and accomplishments in her first term.
“Your appointment is indeed a testament to your competence and experience as a renowned economist and international development expert. Your reappointment without any opposition is a reflection of the hard work you put into your first appointment,” the governor stated.
Governor Oborevwori expressed confidence in her ability to continue bringing pride and honor to Delta State and Nigeria, assuring her of the state’s unwavering prayers and support.
“It is our prayer that as you continue in this remarkable journey, you will re-enact that which you have always done by bringing pride and honor to Delta and Nigeria,” he added.
