The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, On Tuesday, presented a proposed budget of N498 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, titled the “Sustainable Growth Budget,” to the State House of Assembly in Calabar.

Governor Otu detailed the budget breakdown, allocating N328 billion (66%) to capital expenditure and N170 billion (34%) to recurrent spending.

He emphasized that the budget aligns with key Sustainable Development Goals, such as Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Industry and Innovation, and Peace and Justice.

“The 2025 budget is designed around the SDG benchmarks to ensure continuity of key projects and programmes that require rollover into the new fiscal year,” Otu explained, describing the budget as a product of extensive consultations and a reflection of Cross River resident’s aspirations.

Elvert Ayambem, Speaker of the Cross River House of Assembly, praised the proposed budget, expressing confidence in its potential to drive meaningful development across the state.

He also commended Governor Otu’s administration for its commitment to paying civil servant salaries and gratuities on time.
