A magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, has granted bail to lawyer and human rights activist Dele Farotimi, setting the sum at N30 million.
Presiding over the hearing on Friday, Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun approved the bail application but outlined stringent conditions. Farotimi is required to provide two responsible sureties and surrender his international passport to the court.
Additionally, the activist has been restricted from granting media interviews for the duration of the case.
Farotimi’s legal troubles began after the Ekiti State Police Command arraigned him in response to a petition filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria and elder statesman Afe Babalola.
The petition accused Farotimi of criminal defamation stemming from statements in his recently-published book.
Further updates on the case are awaited.
