The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Oduma community in Ogbia Local Government Area to return a stolen pistol.
The pistol was stolen during a violent attack on NDLEA operatives by angry youths from the community on Wednesday.
Four operatives were injured, and the agency’s operational vehicle was vandalized during the attack.
The NDLEA has warned of legal consequences if the pistol is not returned within the stipulated time frame.
The agency’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Obah, disclosed that the operatives were attacked while attempting to arrest drug peddlers.
The injured operatives are still receiving treatment in the hospital.
The NDLEA has condemned the attack and vowed to take action against those responsible.
The agency has appealed to the community to cooperate with its personnel in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.
The Bayelsa State Government has been urged to intervene in the matter to prevent further violence.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of law enforcement agents in the state.
The NDLEA has assured the public that it will not be deterred by the attack and will continue to carry out its mandate.
Residents of the community have expressed concern over the incident, calling for calm and cooperation with the NDLEA.
The NDLEA has launched an investigation into the attack and is working to identify those responsible.
The agency has also increased security measures in the area to prevent further incidents.
The Bayelsa State Police Command has pledged to support the NDLEA in its investigation and efforts to maintain law and order in the state.
