Nigeria’s Falconets cruised into the Round of 16 at the ongoing FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Venezuela on Saturday in Cali.
The two-time silver medalists delivered a commanding performance, with goals from Amina Bello, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, Flourish Sabastine, and substitute Joy Igbokwe.
The scoring opened in the 16th minute when Bello skillfully finished off a precise cut-back from the ever-dangerous Okwuchukwu.
Just 12 minutes later, Okwuchukwu doubled Nigeria’s lead with a powerful header from a corner kick, showcasing her versatility as both a playmaker and scorer.
Okwuchukwu, who had found the back of the net in Nigeria’s earlier 1-3 loss to Germany, was pivotal once again in first-half stoppage time.
She delivered a perfectly placed cross that Flourish Sabastine converted, putting Nigeria in firm control with a 3-0 lead by halftime.
Substitute Joy Igbokwe sealed the win with a late goal, four minutes into stoppage time, further solidifying the Falconets’ place in the knockout stages of the tournament.
With this victory, the Falconets secured six points and a plus three goal difference in their Group D campaign.
They will head to Bogota on Thursday for their Round of 16 match, looking to continue their impressive form.
