In a significant boost to Nigeria’s economy, China has announced its readiness to import high-quality Nigerian products, marking a new chapter in trade cooperation between the two nations.
This decision was revealed in a joint statement following a meeting between Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and China’s President Xi Jinping in Beijing.
President Tinubu is in China on a state visit at the invitation of President Xi, which coincides with the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
The discussions between the two leaders resulted in a comprehensive strategic partnership, supported by several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed during the meeting.
China has welcomed Nigeria to expand its trade through various platforms, including the China International Import Expo, China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, and the China Import and Export Fair.
This move is expected to significantly boost Nigeria’s export potential and overall economic growth.
In response, Nigeria expressed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with China, particularly in the development of energy and mineral resources.
The country also aims to collaborate with Chinese companies to establish manufacturing plants in Nigeria, catering to both local consumption and export needs.
The two nations also agreed to deepen cooperation in emerging sectors such as the digital economy, green development, blue economy, and agricultural modernization, with a focus on fostering new growth drivers in their partnership.
Additionally, Nigeria has welcomed China’s Global Initiative for Artificial Intelligence Governance and the Global Initiative on Data Security.
The Nigerian government appreciates China’s efforts in advocating for the rights of developing countries in areas such as artificial intelligence, network security, and data management.
The joint statement further emphasized the alignment of both countries’ cooperation with Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Eight Priority Agenda, underpinned by China’s Belt and Road Initiative and FOCAC Conference outcomes.
Both nations are committed to promoting high-level, practical cooperation across various sectors.
