Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has undergone surgery to address a brain hemorrhage resulting from a recent fall, according to an announcement by the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital in São Paulo on Tuesday.

In a statement shared on the president’s official Instagram account, the hospital confirmed that the procedure, performed on Monday night, was completed without complications.

“The operation was completed without complications,” the release noted, adding that President Lula is “doing well and under monitoring” in the intensive care unit.

The 78-year-old leader is receiving close medical supervision as he recovers.

Further updates on his condition are expected in the coming days.
