Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has hailed the results of Saturday’s local government elections, describing them as a true reflection of the people’s will.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, and made available to journalists in Makurdi, Governor Alia expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support shown to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The APC secured all 23 chairmanship seats and 276 councillorship positions, as announced earlier by the Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, Richard Tombowua.
Reacting to the victory, Alia commended the people of Benue for their peaceful conduct and active participation in the polls.
He emphasized that the smooth and non-violent nature of the election was a clear demonstration of the people’s democratic maturity. “This election is a reflection of the maturity of the Benue people to engage in a democratic process with respect and dignity, upholding peace and unity, which are critical to the state’s progress,” the governor said.
Alia further extended his appreciation, stating, “I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your active participation in the recent local government elections across our 23 local governments.
Your commitment to exercising your franchise in a peaceful and civil manner is commendable and reflects the maturity of our democracy.”
He noted that the support for APC candidates signaled the public’s alignment with his administration’s vision for the state’s future.
According to him, “The successful conduct of these elections, free from violence, is a testament to our collective resolve to uphold the values of peace and unity that are fundamental to our progress as a state.”
Governor Alia also reassured citizens of his administration’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling its social contract.
He pledged to build a prosperous Benue where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. The governor congratulated all the winners and urged those who lost to work together with the victors and his administration to achieve the state’s full potential.
