At least twelve people have been confirmed killed in new attacks in Plateau State, as violence continues to afflict communities in the central Nigerian region. The latest incidents occurred in Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas, according to local residents and reports.
Residents said the victims were targeted during separate assaults in villages across the two council areas. The exact circumstances and timing of the attacks are still being pieced together by authorities and community sources.
In a related incident reported in the same region, two teenage herders were killed by suspected armed attackers while grazing cattle near Jol village in Riyom LGA on Saturday. Three of their cattle were also reportedly shot during the attack.
Plateau has seen a spate of deadly violence in recent weeks and months. Previous attacks have left several other residents dead, including farmers and community members in villages across the state, as insecurity deepens in the region.
The latest fatalities bring renewed attention to ongoing clashes involving armed groups, with local leaders and security watchers urging increased protection and response from authorities to stem the violence that continues to unsettle Plateau communities.
