The Acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has directed an immediate investigation into allegations of brutality involving a senior officer and two soldiers of the Nigerian Army.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu.
The allegations surfaced after a viral video circulated on social media, reportedly showing a senior army officer and two soldiers in a confrontation with a man and a woman within the Abuja metropolis.
“The circumstances leading to this incident are not clear at the moment,” Nwachukwu said.
He added that the Acting COAS has ordered a thorough investigation to uncover the facts surrounding the incident.
“The Nigerian Army remains committed to serving and protecting all law-abiding Nigerians, as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement read.
Nwachukwu assured the public that due diligence would be applied to ensure a comprehensive and fair resolution of the matter.
The investigation reflects the Army’s pledge to uphold professionalism and accountability in its operations.
