The Anambra State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing investigation into the recent cult-related killings in Nibo, Awka South Local Government Area. In a statement released on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, emphasized that the police are focused on bringing the culprits to justice. He also expressed concern over attempts by some relatives of the deceased to bury evidence and withhold information, which could hinder the investigation.
On Monday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, led a team of officers to the crime scene for an assessment, reinforcing the command’s efforts to leave no stone unturned in their hunt for the assailants.
The attack occurred on Sunday at the Oye Nwochichi market near the Community Old Maternity in Nibo, where gunmen, arriving in a brown Lexus 300 Jeep, opened fire on unsuspecting victims. While the exact number of fatalities is still unclear, community members report that at least 10 bodies have been recovered so far.
The police remain determined to track down those responsible for the violent attack.
