In response to rising transportation costs and economic challenges, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has announced a reduction in workdays for civil servants.

The new directive, outlined in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Samuel Aina Ayanleye, aims to ease the burden on workers across various categories.

According to the circular, civil servants in Grade Levels GL.01 to GL.10 will now work three days a week, while those in GL.12 to GL.17 will work four days a week.

However, essential workers, such as healthcare professionals, security personnel, and political appointees, are exempt from the new schedule and will maintain their regular workweeks.

In addition to the revised work schedule, Governor Adeleke has approved the extension of palliative payments for civil servants for an additional two months, pending the implementation of a new minimum wage.

“By this circular, the working day schedules for public servants in the state are approved as follows: Public Servants on GL.01 to GL.10 – three days a week; Public Servants on GL.12 to GL.17 – four days a week,” the circular stated.

The circular also highlighted that accounting officers in Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) will be responsible for organizing workdays for affected staff.

It added that all relevant state authorities, including local governments, are expected to ensure compliance with the new directive.

“The Governor has graciously approved the continuation of payment of the agreed palliatives to public servants in the state for the next two months, pending the commencement of the new minimum wage,” the circular added.
