Former Anambra State governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has outlined an economic blueprint aimed at repositioning Nigeria from a consumption-based economy to one driven by production, industrialisation and exports.
Speaking on his vision for the country’s economic future, Obi said Nigeria’s long-term prosperity depends on increasing local production, creating jobs and reducing dependence on imports. He stressed that the nation must prioritise manufacturing, agriculture and value addition to unlock sustainable growth.
According to Obi, his administration would focus on supporting businesses, improving infrastructure, expanding access to finance for productive sectors and implementing policies that encourage investment in manufacturing and exports.
He maintained that economic growth would only become meaningful when it translates into employment opportunities and improved living standards for Nigerians.
“We must move Nigeria from consumption to production,” Obi said.
The former presidential candidate argued that countries that have achieved rapid economic growth did so by building productive economies rather than relying heavily on imports and consumption.
He also reiterated the need for disciplined public spending, improved governance and strategic investments in education, healthcare and technology to strengthen Nigeria’s human capital and enhance productivity.
Obi further noted that creating a stable business environment and restoring investor confidence would be central to achieving the country’s economic transformation, insisting that Nigeria possesses the resources and human capacity required to become a leading productive economy if the right policies are implemented.
