The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-acclaimed Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), following a bench warrant issued by a Federal High Court in Abuja over his failure to appear for arraignment.
Adeyemi was apprehended by operatives of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), although authorities have yet to disclose full details surrounding the operation or the circumstances of his arrest.
Justice Umar of the Federal High Court had earlier ordered his arrest after he failed to appear in court to answer an eight-count charge bordering on alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation. The arrest order followed an oral application by police prosecutor Wisdom Madaki.
Adeyemi is expected to be arraigned before the court to take his plea on the charges, which stem from the ongoing investigation into the activities of the disputed PFIPC, an organisation the Federal Government has said lacks official recognition.
The arrest marks a significant development in the high-profile PFIPC scandal, as investigators continue efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged forgery, impersonation and other related offences linked to the organisation.
