Chelsea FC have dismissed head coach Liam Rosenior following a run of five consecutive Premier League defeats, the club confirmed on Wednesday.
The 41-year-old had been in charge for just over three months after joining from French side Strasbourg, which is affiliated with Chelsea’s ownership group.
Tuesday’s 3-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion proved decisive, extending a poor run that has seen Chelsea lose five straight league matches without scoring for the first time since 1912. The slump leaves the club seven points outside the Champions League qualification places.
“Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Liam Rosenior,” the club said in a statement.
“Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment midway through the season.
“This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season.”
The club announced that Calum McFarlane will take charge on an interim basis, with his first game set to be an FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United on Sunday.
