Nigeria women’s national football team have moved up in the latest global rankings released by FIFA, maintaining their position as Africa’s top-ranked side ahead of regional rivals.
The Super Falcons are now ranked 36th in the world, rising one place from 37th in the previous standings.
The ten-time African champions remain the highest-ranked team on the continent, ahead of South Africa women’s national football team, who are ranked 58th, and Ghana women’s national football team, who sit 59th.
The team, coached by Justine Madugu, recorded the improvement despite not playing any matches during the most recent international break.

However, the lack of fixtures sparked criticism of the Nigeria Football Federation, which did not arrange friendly matches for the team as preparations continue for their continental title defence in Morocco later this year.
Globally, Spain women’s national football team remain the top-ranked side, followed by the United States women’s national soccer team.

England women’s national football team occupy third place after defeating Spain in their recent UEFA Nations League clash, with Germany women’s national football team and Japan women’s national football team ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.
Brazil women’s national football team are sixth, followed by France women’s national football team, while Sweden women’s national football team, Canada women’s national soccer team and Netherlands women’s national football team complete the top 10.
FIFA confirmed that the next edition of the Women’s World Ranking will be released on June 16, 2026.
