CDS Orders TroopsThe Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Olufemi Oluyede, has directed troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA to intensify operations against bandits and other criminal elements in Nigeria’s North-West region.
The directive was issued during an operational visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force, North West, in Gusau, Zamfara State, where the defence chief assessed troop readiness and ongoing efforts to restore security. Addressing the troops, Oluyede praised their dedication and sacrifices in safeguarding the nation, urging them to remain committed and professional in the discharge of their duties.“The safety of our citizens rests on our shoulders.
You must remain resolute and go after these criminals until they are eliminated. We must make Nigeria safe at all cost,” he said. The CDS assured personnel of continued institutional support, particularly in the areas of welfare, training, and provision of operational equipment to enhance their effectiveness on the battlefield.
He reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal groups, noting that ongoing operations would continue until lasting peace is achieved across the North-West and the country at large. Oluyede also highlighted the importance of coordinated air support in military operations, disclosing that efforts are underway to strengthen operational capacity through improved collaboration and additional platforms.
As part of his visit, the defence chief paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, commending the state government and residents for their cooperation with security agencies, particularly in intelligence sharing.
In his remarks, the governor lauded the military for its sustained efforts and sacrifices in tackling insecurity in the state and the wider North-West region. The visit featured operational briefings, interaction with troops, and an on-the-ground assessment of deployments as part of ongoing efforts to curb insecurity in the region.
