Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has declared that the 2027 general election will mark his last attempt to contest for Nigeria’s presidency.

Atiku made the disclosure in a recent interview, signalling what could be the end of his long-standing ambition to lead the country after multiple previous bids.“The 2027 election will be my last attempt at contesting for the presidency,” he said, affirming his resolve to make one final push for the nation’s top office.

The former presidential candidate, who has contested several times under different political platforms, said his decision reflects both personal considerations and the evolving political landscape ahead of the next general election.Atiku, a key figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics, has remained active in coalition efforts aimed at challenging the ruling party.

His latest declaration comes amid ongoing political realignments and discussions among opposition leaders ahead of 2027.Political analysts say the announcement could influence succession dynamics within opposition parties, as attention gradually shifts to identifying younger or alternative candidates for future elections.

Despite describing the 2027 race as his final bid, Atiku maintained that his commitment to Nigeria’s development and democratic process remains unwavering. The 2027 general election is expected to be highly competitive, with several prominent political figures already being speculated as potential contenders for the presidency.
