Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has pledged to provide a ₦200,000 counterpart fund to support a World Bank-backed health initiative, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery.

The governor made the disclosure while addressing stakeholders, noting that the funding forms part of the requirements for participation in the World Bank-supported programme aimed at improving primary healthcare services.

According to him, “We will pay the ₦200,000 counterpart fund required for this programme,” stressing that the state is fully prepared to meet its obligations to ensure access to the intervention.

He emphasised that the initiative aligns with his administration’s broader focus on improving health outcomes and expanding access to quality medical services across the state.

The World Bank-supported programme is designed to enhance service delivery in key sectors, particularly primary healthcare, through performance-based funding tied to measurable results.

Governor Otti further reiterated his government’s readiness to partner with development organisations, noting that such collaborations are critical to building a resilient and efficient healthcare system.

The counterpart funding requirement is part of broader efforts to ensure state-level commitment and accountability in the implementation of donor-supported programmes, particularly those targeting grassroots healthcare improvements.
