The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, has died in Egypt, where he had been receiving medical treatment.
Zuru reportedly passed away on Monday night in an Egyptian hospital after battling an undisclosed illness, according to sources familiar with the development.
Confirming the incident, an aide to the Kebbi State Government described the development as shocking and a significant loss to the state and the country at large.
“The death of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, came to us as a rude shock. It is a painful loss not only to Kebbi State but to the entire nation,” the aide said.
He added that further details surrounding the Speaker’s passing would be made available in due course, noting that the government would also announce burial arrangements in consultation with the family.
“We are still gathering full details surrounding his passing. The government will make an official statement and announce burial arrangements in consultation with the family,” he said.
Until his death, Zuru represented the Zuru constituency in the Kebbi State House of Assembly and was regarded as a key figure in the state’s legislative arm.
