The future of Enzo Fernández at Chelsea FC has come under fresh scrutiny following his suspension by the club, with his agent indicating that discussions over a potential exit could take place after the World Cup.
Fernández was sanctioned on Friday after making comments in a recent interview in which he hinted at a possible move to Spain and questioned the club’s direction following Chelsea’s heavy 8–2 aggregate defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.
Speaking after the club’s European exit, the midfielder admitted uncertainty about his long-term future at Stamford Bridge despite being under contract until 2032.
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior reportedly deemed the remarks inappropriate, stating that the 25-year-old had “crossed a line” with respect to the club’s culture. Fernández has consequently been left out of key fixtures, including the FA Cup quarter-final against Port Vale and a crucial Premier League clash with Manchester City.
Reacting to the development, the player’s agent, Javier Pastore, disclosed that talks over his client’s future would be revisited after the World Cup.
“Our plan after the World Cup is to meet with Chelsea again and, if there is no agreement, to explore other options,” Pastore stated.
He further praised Fernández’s influence within the squad, describing him as central to the team’s success.
“He’s the backbone and leader of the team; it’s only natural that, from a sporting perspective, he’s happy to be at Chelsea. He won major trophies last year and earned the respect of the entire Premier League.”
However, the agent also raised concerns over the club’s handling of the situation, pointing to broader issues beyond on-field performance.
“Then there are other factors that influence decisions, whether it’s salary, respect, or the way things are handled.
“There are so many things that we aren’t seeing at the moment – or at least I, as an agent, am not seeing – that suggest the club is not handling things in the best possible way with him.”
The situation adds to ongoing tensions at the club as uncertainty grows over Fernández’s future ahead of the next transfer window.
