The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will participate in the 2027 general elections, dismissing concerns about the party’s internal crisis.
Speaking amid ongoing tensions within the opposition party, Wike maintained that despite its challenges, the PDP remains a formidable political platform and will not be excluded from the electoral process.
He stressed that fears about the party’s possible absence from the ballot are unfounded, stating, “PDP will be on the ballot in 2027.”
The former Rivers State governor also weighed in on reconciliation efforts within the party, acknowledging ongoing moves to resolve disputes among rival factions.
Party stakeholders have recently initiated talks aimed at restoring unity and strengthening the PDP ahead of the next election cycle.
Wike’s remarks come at a time when internal divisions have raised questions about the PDP’s cohesion and preparedness for the 2027 polls. However, he signalled optimism that the party would overcome its differences and remain competitive.
Nigeria is expected to hold its next general elections in 2027, with major political parties already positioning themselves for the contest.
