Israel has declared that its war with Iran has reached a “decisive phase,” even as fighting continues to widen across the Middle East, according to government and military sources.
Explosions and bombardments have rocked cities across the region, with Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz saying the campaign would persist “as long as necessary” to achieve its goals.
The conflict – which began in late February following a major US‑Israeli assault on Iranian targets – has already caused significant civilian displacement, with millions of people fleeing areas under attack and over 1,200 reported killed in Iran alone.
The violence has also spread beyond Iran’s borders. Attacks have been reported against a US embassy in Baghdad, and explosions damaged a major energy facility in the United Arab Emirates, triggering wider regional tensions.
While Israel’s leaders stress that the campaign is entering a critical stage, Tehran has continued to respond with missile and drone strikes against neighbouring countries and strategic maritime routes, including the vital Strait of Hormuz, which has seen shipping disruptions.
Global energy markets and diplomatic channels are reacting to the escalation, with governments warning of economic fallout and urging restraint.
