President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the procurement of additional military hardware to reinforce the operational capacity of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in the fight against terrorism and insurgency across the country.
The disclosure was made by Christopher Musa on Thursday after a high-level security briefing with the president. According to him, the meeting provided an opportunity for service chiefs to brief Tinubu extensively on the progress of ongoing military operations and the current security situation nationwide.
“The meeting enabled Mr. President to gain direct insight into developments on the ground,” Musa said.
The defence minister also noted that public narratives about the security situation sometimes fail to reflect the full extent of military activities aimed at tackling security threats across different parts of the country.
While acknowledging that some areas have recently experienced attacks, Musa maintained that troops have continued to respond forcefully and have inflicted significant losses on terrorist groups.
According to him, several high-ranking militant commanders have been neutralised during recent operations, while troops have also recovered a number of assets from insurgent groups.
Musa paid tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing their sacrifice as deeply regrettable while stressing that the armed forces remain resolute in their mission.
“The commitment of our Armed Forces to ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians is unwavering,” he said.
He appealed to Nigerians to remain patient and supportive of ongoing military efforts, explaining that terrorist activities often intensify during the Ramadan period.
The minister added that military commanders have adjusted operational strategies to counter this trend and ensure sustained pressure on insurgent groups.
Musa expressed optimism that the newly approved military equipment, combined with stronger coordination among security agencies, would further enhance the country’s counter-terrorism campaign.
“Our agencies are working in concert, fully committed to winning this war,” he added.
