Achraf Hakimi has said he is prepared to stand trial following a rape allegation made against him, maintaining that he will allow the judicial process to run its course so the truth can emerge publicly.
The Moroccan international, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, is accused by a 24-year-old woman of raping her at his home in the French capital in 2023. Hakimi has denied the allegation.
The public prosecutor’s office in Nanterre opened a preliminary investigation into the case in March 2023.
Responding to reports that the matter will proceed to court, Hakimi stated on social media platform X that he intends to contest the allegation and prove his innocence.
“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial,” he posted on X.
“This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”
No trial date has been fixed.
Hakimi’s lawyer confirmed that legal proceedings are advancing, stating that the player is ready to defend himself before the court.
“A trial has been ordered,” the lawyer said in a statement, adding that “it is with determination and resolve that we await this trial so that justice may be served.”
BBC Sport reported that it had contacted the Nanterre prosecutor’s office for comment.
Despite the ongoing legal process, Hakimi was named in PSG’s squad for their UEFA Champions League knockout round play-off second-leg clash against AS Monaco on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old defender, born in Spain but representing Morocco internationally, has made 194 appearances for PSG and helped the club secure both the Champions League and Ligue 1 titles last season.
His performances were also recognised at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony held in Paris on Monday, where he was named in the FIFPRO men’s world team of the year.
Hakimi is further expected to feature for Morocco at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the North African side will face the Scotland national football team, Haiti national football team and Brazil national football team in the group stage.
