The Federal Government has announced plans to officially launch a digital trade platform for air and sea cargo operations in March 2026 as part of efforts to improve efficiency in Nigeria’s import and export processes.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) disclosed the development in a statement posted on its official X handle, noting that the Directorate of Cargo Development and Services, working with the National Single Window (NSW) team, recently met with industry stakeholders to prepare for the rollout.
“The Directorate of Cargo Development and Services of FAAN, in collaboration with the @NSW_Nigeria team, recently engaged with key stakeholders and announced that the Digital Trade Platform is scheduled for launch in March 2026,” the statement read.
According to FAAN, cargo airline operators have been directed by the Minister of Finance to begin submitting their air cargo manifests through the National Single Window platform ahead of the official launch.
“During the engagement, all cargo airline operators were directed by the Honourable Minister of Finance to submit their air cargo manifests through the National Single Window (NSW) platform in preparation for the official launch,” the authority added.
To ensure a smooth transition, FAAN said training sessions will be conducted for stakeholders prior to the rollout.
Speaking further, Henry Agbebire, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs, clarified that the initiative is not limited to aviation cargo alone but also covers seaport operations.
The digital platform forms part of the broader National Single Window project inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu in April 2024. The electronic portal is designed to connect all government agencies and private sector operators involved in trade into a single integrated system.
The government projects that the initiative could generate about $2.7 billion annually by reducing bureaucratic delays, curbing corruption, eliminating revenue leakages, and improving trade efficiency at Nigeria’s ports.
The Nigerian Ports Authority had earlier indicated that the National Single Window would go live before the end of the first quarter of 2026.
