Posters promoting a 2027 joint presidential ticket featuring former Kano State governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Imo State governor Hope Uzodinma have surfaced on social media, triggering widespread political speculation and reactions. The posters suggest that Ganduje, who currently serves as the national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), would contest for the presidency, while Uzodinma, the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), would be his vice-presidential running mate.
The posters, which bear the slogan “For Nigerians, prosperity and human capital development,” indicate that both political figures plan to run on the APC platform, potentially positioning themselves as key contenders in the 2027 elections. Their emergence has raised eyebrows within political circles, particularly as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to seek re-election for a second term in office.
The timing of these posters comes amid swirling rumors of an alleged plot to remove Ganduje from his position as the APC national chairman and offer him an ambassadorial appointment. However, the APC National Working Committee (NWC) has dismissed these claims, labeling them false.
Dr. Ganduje, who has been a vocal supporter of President Tinubu’s administration, has consistently expressed confidence in Tinubu’s ability to win a second term in 2027. The appearance of these posters, however, contradicts his previous statements and has fueled speculation about his future political ambitions.
In response to the posters, Ganduje was quick to denounce them as the handiwork of mischief-makers intent on causing political discord. His Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, labeled the posters as “laughable, childish, and a deliberate act of mischief.” Olofu further stated that the posters were part of a broader campaign by “fifth columnists” who have been attempting to undermine Ganduje’s leadership within the APC since his appointment as national chairman.
“This is a deliberate act to cause disaffection between him and his brother and leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Olofu said in a telephone interview with *Daily Trust*. He added that the individuals behind the posters were attempting to create friction within the party and urged them to desist from such actions, emphasizing that President Tinubu would not fall for this “cheap blackmail.”
The release of the posters has injected new intrigue into Nigeria’s political landscape, as speculation grows about the possible contenders for the 2027 election. While President Tinubu’s body language and actions indicate a likely re-election bid, the emergence of Ganduje and Uzodinma as potential challengers could reshape the dynamics within the APC and the broader political arena.
As the 2027 election draws nearer, it remains to be seen whether these posters signal a genuine shift in Ganduje and Uzodinma’s political strategies or whether they are merely part of a broader political chess game being played behind the scenes. For now, the posters have certainly added a new layer of complexity to Nigeria’s evolving political narrative.
