The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack that left several residents dead and others injured.

The restriction, which took immediate effect from midnight on March 29, is aimed at restoring order and preventing further violence after the incident in the Angwan Rukuba area.

Announcing the measure, the state government said the decision was taken in collaboration with security agencies. “The Plateau State Government in conjunction with security agencies wishes to inform the general public of the imposition of a 48-hour curfew within Jos North Local Government Area with immediate effect,” the statement read.

Authorities described the attack as “barbaric and unprovoked,” assuring residents that efforts were underway to apprehend those responsible and prevent further breakdown of law and order.

Reports indicate that the assault, which occurred on Sunday night, resulted in multiple fatalities, with some sources putting the death toll at over a dozen, while several others sustained injuries.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the killings and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to justice. “The government is taking all necessary steps to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice,” he said.

Residents have been urged to remain calm, comply fully with the curfew, and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid ongoing investigations. Security personnel have also been deployed across key areas, with patrols intensified to enforce the restriction and maintain peace.

The curfew underscores growing concerns over security in Jos North, an area that has experienced recurring episodes of violence in recent years.
