The Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (NIEEE) has called on the federal government to establish comprehensive standards and codes to enhance the country’s sustainable energy sector, a vital component of Nigeria’s economic growth.
Speaking at the 2024 NIEEE conference in Abuja, themed “Harnessing Standards for Sustainable Energy and Economic Growth,” the institute’s president, Engr. Felix Olu, highlighted the importance of setting clear guidelines for the sector.
“There is a crucial need to develop standards, codes, and guidelines in energy development to tackle the issue of quackery and enhance the standardisation of goods and services. This is the only way we can boost efficiency in the sector,” Olu said.
Khalil Suleiman Halilu, Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), also stressed the importance of global alignment in energy practices.
“Standards not only enhance our economy but also support the deployment of innovations, contributing to our development goals,” Halilu stated.
